Last month we had a lot of rain and this huge mushroom popped up literally overnight. I was so fascinated, I spoke to my son Joshua who has a microbiology degree and a fascination with fungi.
Josh explained that the mushroom had been underground growing for a while and then when it got strong enough, it popped up. After he told me this, I went back outside and examined the ground around the base of the stem. I figured the earth would be disturbed, but I couldn’t see any indication of disruption around the stem. How did that monster mushroom cap break through? My son explained that it broke through like a closed umbrella and then popped open after it came up.
He also told me that when the mushroom breaks off, it doesn’t kill the fungi. It’s still underground, very much alive.
I was reading The Complete Works of Florence Scovel Shinn and one of her affirmations made me laugh out loud with delight:
“My supply comes from God and now appears like mushrooms overnight.”
After my experience with the mushroom, this was an affirmation that really resonated with me. As I’m working on my various projects and I have no idea how some things will happen, I remember the mushroom that is growing and gaining strength. My big vision will pop up overnight. It’ll look like a miracle… but God is working already to bring it to pass.
