The Power of Shared Vision in Your Marriage

Have you ever faced a big challenge that ripped at the foundational security of your life? In 2001, my then-husband and I were in a financial situation that not only threatened our financial peace but also our marriage. I was doing everything I could to find a solution. Then, I met a woman who taught me how to think and how to understand God’s universal laws of thought, abundance, and how to bounce back from setbacks.

Leslie Householder took me under her wing and taught me concepts that immediately doubled my income within a month or so. A couple months later, my income doubled again. It kept growing.

In 2006, when my then-husband lost a job, he was able to stay home and try to start his own business. Unfortunately, he didn’t want to learn the principles of success or take inspired action. His business fizzled in about a year. Mine kept growing. By 2009, my business had grown to six figures.

In 2013, that marriage ended. Mine is an exaggerated tale. Just because one person is into success principles and the other isn’t, does not mean they can’t have a perfectly beautiful marriage. There were many other factors that played into the demise of that marriage.

Create a Shared Vision for Your Marriage

But there is one take-away that I’d like to share: If at all possible, create a shared vision where both of you are working toward it!

This does NOT mean you both have to be doing or studying the same things. You don’t need the same interests. A shared vision with shared values and good communication where both spouses take positive action can make a beautiful marriage.

That’s why when Leslie suggested my husband Dave and I attend her Genius Bootcamp in February 2020, I was thrilled that he wanted to go with me. He sat through the same 2.5 day experiential training on the laws of thought, how the mind works, and how to obtain inspired, genius solutions to perplexing problems.

Before going to Genius Bootcamp, as newlyweds we both knew and felt God calling us to work alongside each other. We just weren’t incredibly clear on what He wanted us to do. While I had a slightly clearer vision, Dave didn’t quite know what his specific vision or mission was. He had nuances or glimpses but not the entire vision. He didn’t spend the time getting a clearer vision because life was putting him in the weeds (literally). We were collaborating some, but not in full lockstep.

That said, we still got a lot done. Dave repaired things on our house. We got furniture for the spare rooms, and we started holding creativity, writing, and business retreats. That much of our vision we knew, and we took action. I learned through this process that my husband is a natural manifester. He knows how to get things that we desire or need in innovative ways. He’s great at letting go of “where” things come from!

It was when we took Genius Bootcamp together that things really started to click for us. Our business collaboration improved. Clients started coming regularly because we were clearer about what benefits we provided. We developed a mutual vision that what we help people do is, “discover, create and deliver their soul’s song.”

Eventually, I wrote a book, Z: A Dystopian/Millennium Novel, that solidified our vision for our property. All we have to say now when an opportunity presents itself is, “This is (or isn’t) part of Z” and we’re aligned on the vision again. After Dave read and edited the book, our big WHY really clicked for him. Nearly every day that he’s able to get outside and work on our vision for the property, he knows WHY he’s doing it.

I never would have written that book had I not dug back into the principles Leslie taught me by going through her Mindset Mastery course on my own and then us attending Genius Bootcamp together.

Because we have a shared vision, we now move forward together. We don’t necessarily do the same things. We each have tasks we’re good at and enjoy. God is using our natural differences to build something beautiful.

Power of Shared Vision in Your Marriage
Marnie & Dave with the Boohers. They came for a retreat to work on Adrian’s book launch. Her husband came along to get on the same page with the vision for her work. Isn’t that great?!

While Dave is very hands-on, making real world things happen – like working the land or ghostwriting, editing, and consulting clients, I’ve been working with clients on breaking through their self-defeating thought patterns. Together, Dave and I help our clients discover, create, and deliver their soul’s song in the world.

I doubt we’d be so clearly on the same page without having attended Genius Bootcamp together.

Genius Bootcamp will teach you

  • how your mind works,
  • how to get your subconscious mind on board with the goals your conscious mind is setting.
  • how to stop sabotaging yourself. The subconscious loves to sabotage you! It thinks it’s keeping you safe. You’ll learn how to identify and work around its obstacles.
  • the importance of vision and how to create a vision
  • you’ll also learn that the solution to your biggest challenge is only one idea away. My objective by the end of Genius Bootcamp is for you to come away with that idea!
