Living in the past is quicksand. Whether you view the past as beautiful and better than the present or horrible and laced with pain, you\u2019re caught in quicksand. The past is an especially dangerous quicksand that no one else can help you escape. The more you idealize or demonize the people and events of the past, the deeper you\u2019ll sink and the more miserable you\u2019ll become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who comes along to ask forgiveness for their role in your past is extending a hand to help you from your quagmire. You may think they\u2019re disingenuous or that you can\u2019t trust them. Maybe you think they don\u2019t deserve forgiveness. Even if they are faking it, even if they don\u2019t \u201cdeserve it,\u201d if you refuse to release your ill will toward them, you do so at your own peril.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply reaching toward their reaching starts transforming the quicksand to solid ground. Forgiving them isn\u2019t about saving them. It\u2019s about saving you! And that\u2019s true whether they ever ask for your forgiveness or not. Their mere presence in your memory is an invitation to release what is holding you hostage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s your choice to stay where you are or leave. It always comes down to your choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No moment is all bad or all good. Each moment is like a coin with two sides. See only one side and you\u2019re trapped in quicksand. See it realistically\u2026. With both the challenge and the support, and you are free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can never build happy futures until we see reality for what it is\u2026 a moment in time with both challenge and support. See both and understand that every moment serves us and the progressive realization of our highest and best selves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Jesus said \u201cSufficient is the day to the evil thereof\u201d (Matthew 6:34). Every difficult moment contains its own way of escape. Look for the good and latch onto it. See the challenge as the price tag\u2026 the counterweight to all your blessings. Your challenges make it possible for you to have an amazing life.<\/p>\n\n\n
