The Eyes Are The Window to the Soul

It’s been said, “The eyes are the window to the soul.” I had an epiphany the other day while looking into my dog’s eyes. Snow and I have this connection. She looks deeply into my eyes and I into hers. It’s as if we can see each other’s souls. It’s an amazing connection to have with anyone, but to find it with a pet is really quite remarkable.

The other day, I took a mental inventory of the relationships I’ve had with men, trying to remember what it was like to look into their eyes. I realized that not once, that I can recall, do I remember having the level of eye-to-eye connection I have with this Great Pyrenees! Isn’t that wild?

Then I understood that THIS is a clue for what I’m looking for. The connection in the eyes… that soul-to-soul connection is a piece to my puzzle. I’ve decided I will not overlook it in the future. It’s getting added to my “make or break” list.

  1. Our Pyrenees does the same thing. I think it must be a Pyrenees trait, along with their “old wisdom”, awareness of anything dangerous in the area, any need of a person or animal…they are continually observing and sensing when they are needed to protect. In fact, that is how Wolf got his name 11 years ago. He turned up in our yard and was lying down, facing away from the house. Not knowing this strange dog, my husband sent me out to check him out. LOL Without rising, Wolf raised his head, looked back over his shoulder and straight into my eyes. Our eyes “locked” on each other for what seemed an extraordinary time. Then I said, “Well, hello Wolf. You have the most beautiful wolf-eyes I’ve ever seen”. We’ve been family ever since and his eyes, although failing with age, still seem to peer straight into my heart. Great Pyrenees are the most amazing creatures, and I’m not at all surprised that you and Snow have a beautiful, even spiritual, relationship. God must surely work directly through these protective, yet gentle, dogs. One day I still hope to meet Snow when passing through your area.
