When I was growing up my brother called me “good enough Marnie.” It was intended to be a jab, but in fact, I consider it a compliment. Why? Because I believe perfectionism is the kiss of death for the entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs make their living based on what their customers want and need. If you get too hung up on making everything “perfect” before you let your ideas or products out of the bag, you lose precious time in being the first to market. You also don’t benefit from the valuable feedback you could be getting from prospective clients and customers. I’m not suggesting you create garbage or inferior products, but I am suggesting that you let go of perfection.
I just read a wonderful blog on this subject by Jonathan Leger called “But It’s Got to Be Perfect!” He does an excellent job explaining why holding onto things until they’re perfect is bad business. A friend sent me the blog because she thought I could relate. After spending a couple weeks at my house she told me, “Marnie, now I know why you’re not a perfectionist. You don’t have time to be!”
